Pramod manages a household of five people and lives close to the ACG facility in Dahanu. Until recently, he earned a living through traditional farming practices such as paddy cultivation and working as a labourer in the off-season.

Living like this, Pramod found that every day was a struggle, and the small income he earned was quickly absorbed by the family’s urgent needs and the cost of purchasing seeds and fertiliser. That was until Pramod decided to make a change.

Working with the ACG Cares Foundation Livelihood programme, Pramod looked into ways to diversify his income and strengthen his household’s resilience. He started with a venture into horticulture and received valuable training and materials through the programme.

Initially, Pramod focused on trellis-based vegetable cultivation, particularly bitter gourd, which proved to be a successful endeavour, making him a good income in a short period of time. Pramod was also encouraged to learn that this type of farming required minimal irrigation, which was particularly helpful in the Kharif harvesting season.

With the newfound confidence he has gained from the support he received from ACG Cares Foundation; Pramod is even more optimistic about expanding his farming practices in the future.

With one successful venture under his belt, Pramod is planning to expand his efforts. He plans to cultivate cluster beans and okra on a large scale to further increase his income.
